We are actively seeking a US-based experienced Senior Account Director that has the track-record in supporting the daily activities of large-scale strategic client medical publication plans.
 MUST HAVE MEDICAL PUBLICATIONS EXPERIENCE. 

Our medical and account teams provide strategic support to pharmaceutical company clients and produce top-notch journal articles, abstracts, posters, supplements, slide presentations, monographs, and other educational materials.

Position Overview

Senior Account Directors oversee all aspects of their account(s) from conception of the initial plan to the final submission of that plan, as well as any updates and associated tactics. They are responsible for working with their internal team members to ensure that each project is delivered with the highest scientific quality, within agreed timelines and client budgets. They are exceptionally proactive and responsive to their clients and the key opinion leaders with whom their teams interact on a day-to-day basis. Our Senior Account Directors cultivate the growth and prosperity of our business by driving their teams to deliver the highest quality publication plans and other communications deliverables, thus ensuring our continued excellent reputation in the industry.

Account Direction/Growth
  • Core responsibility is managing strategic publication plans including abstracts, posters, primary and review articles 
  • Directly responsible for outcome of all assigned projects
  • Partner with the Senior Management team to share in the accountability for the total growth and profitability results for a major client relationship.  This is based on having developed expertise in all positioning strategies, publication alternatives, scientific and/or educational tactics, and the overarching ability to stimulate gains in revenue and profitability growth 
  • Proactively partner with client publication leaders to develop and implement winning publications strategies by demonstrating:
    • Mastery and command of the various strategies and tactics that are most appropriate to unique client situations
    • Definitive and communicable understanding of the critical success factors and likely risks or challenges associated with those various strategies and tactics
  • Prepare project proposals and coordinate implementation and follow-up, including preparing and delivering professional client presentations for sales purposes
  • Generate business with established clients as well as new clients within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry 
  • Manage and take responsibility for all client contact —internal and external—with a consistent focus on agency profitability, resource productivity and growth, client satisfaction and endorsement of agency’s superior capability
  • Responsible for revenue forecasting; meeting quarterly revenue targets; managing expenses
  • Prepare client and author contact reports
  • Solution-oriented individual with deep intuitive understanding of their account in order to:
    • Recommend alternatives and identify opportunities
    • Problem-solve challenges and contingency plan
  • Provide strategic oversight for internal work as well as meet client expectations
  • Senior Account Directors have a greater responsibility to the overall management of existing accounts and to new business.  The expectation is for Senior Account Directors to manage a number of key accounts with little involvement of the Senior Management team
  • Meet financial targets as determined by Senior Management and SVP/VP, Client Services

Compliance, Documentation and Operational Expectations
  • Comply with established standards, policies and procedures 
  • Maintain consistent attendance 
  • Maintain timely submission of timesheets
  • Professional, timely response to all internal and external communications
  • Increase in workload/volume across multiple clients and accounts while ensuring quality and accuracy
  • Procure and maintain appropriate travel documentation
Financial Management
  • Accurate and timely invoicing
  • Statements of Work/Purchase Orders are in place before work begins
  • Project Change Notices are prepared and in compliance with corporate standards
  • Ensure client tracking reports and invoice schedules are prepared on a timely basis

Team Management/Mentorship
  • Manage the assigned Account and Medical teams on all proposed and sold business 
  • Lead peers and junior staff members, acting as a strong role model for less experienced individuals through both direct development and example of exceptional performance
  • Provide frequent performance feedback and coaching to improve the capability and productivity of assigned internal staff resources
  • Establish, monitor and deliver on project timeline in partnership with fellow internal team members
  • Cultivate team performance in such a way as to encourage personal growth and development
  • A Senior Account Director may or may not have direct reports.  In the event that the team includes Project Managers and Project Coordinators, the Senior Account Director may be required to manage these individuals directly, including formulating development plans, managing overall workload, review and approval of timesheets and time off requests and performance reviews and enforce compliance with all company SOPs  
  • Participate in the management of development plans for Senior Account Managers and Account Managers that support their accounts and growth potential. 
Account Resourcing/Operations
  • Support management team in assessing the staffing and operations requirements to successfully execute new business ventures and strategies
  • Evaluate patterns of performance, teamwork, process management and business practices which, if changed, could improve agency profitability, resource effectiveness and productivity, overall client satisfaction and market competitiveness
  • Proactively plan and manage specific operations effectiveness and productivity initiatives which will strengthen agency results and performance flexibility
  • Negotiate resource requirements with senior management for all assigned teams whenever the workload and client requirements are expected to generate more activity and output than assigned staff can manage in a reliable quality manner

Product Knowledge
  • Review the therapeutic literature, understand client data and provide strategic and scientific feedback to the medical team
  • Attend relevant conferences in therapeutic areas as needed

Position Requirements

Education or Equivalent: (Minimum required to perform job) 
  • B.A. or B.S. in marketing, communications, biology, life sciences or related field (candidates with an advanced degree and/or CMPP certification preferred)
  • Advanced degree in health science or business management is desirable
  • More than 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, medical communications and/or publication planning industry.
  • Experience in publication management

Knowledge/Skills Requirements 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Data Vision and Project Management software, and the ability to apply these skills to deliverables
  • Business writing skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proven ability to manage people for gains in productivity and client satisfaction
  • Ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing projects and associated deadlines
  • Ability to handle high levels of account activity
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team structure
  • A Senior Account Director must demonstrate the ability to complete and know all account-related tasks and responsibilities
  • Experience with DataVision required

Business Environment  
Hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm or 9:00am – 5:30pm EST
Remote-based
Travel: Position requires domestic and/or international travel (~20%)
