Senior Medical Writer 

Our Senior Medical Writers work as part of a multidisciplinary team (including medical director, editor, graphic designers, and account personnel) to produce abstracts, posters, outlines, primary and review articles, monographs, slide presentations, meeting summaries, and other materials. Level of experience and ability to effectively partner with medical directors to create efficiencies justifies the senior role. 
Responsibilities include: 
  • Developing high-quality written materials that are scientifically accurate, fully referenced, appropriate to the target audience, and that meet the authors’ communication objectives and client specifications
  • Interacting with key experts to solicit their input, facilitate alignment, resolve queries, and make constructive suggestions about content 
  • Researching medical and scientific topics using relevant information sources; annotating those sources while writing 
  • Developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge in relevant therapy areas including disease state, treatment guidelines, drug mechanisms of action, product efficacy and safety profile, and competitive landscape
  • Working independently to incorporate necessary rounds of revisions and address reviewer questions/comments 
  • Working closely with medical, editorial, and account management personnel in coordinating work to accomplish project goals
  • Participating as an active team member in providing strategic recommendations and contributing to continuous quality improvement
  • Attending meetings as required, including internal kick-off meetings, status meetings, and client/author calls
  • Providing mentoring/training to more junior-level writers 
  • Representing the company at selected congresses and society and client meetings as needed
  • Assisting in the development of project proposals and other new business development initiatives as needed (eg, background, lit searches, faculty recommendations, biography updates, etc.)
  • Being cognizant of team/company expectations in terms of budgeted hours, deadlines, and other goals and communicating with team regarding these as needed
  • Following standard operating procedures (SOPs), including updating of project files, following sign-off procedures, and version-control conventions
What you’ll bring:
  • MD, PharmD, or PhD strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience with a medical publications agency, medical education company, or equivalent that included drafting publications for peer-reviewed journal submission
  • Experience writing from clinical trial Protocols, Statistical Analysis Plans, and Clinical Study Reports
  • Ability to perform medical literature searches and produce high-quality medical writing 
  • Aptitude for the English language and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team structure
  • Ability to quickly and thoroughly understand any pharmaceutical product, particularly as it relates to the overall therapeutic area
  • High comfort level interacting with clients and faculty
  • Ability to perform all duties on-line, as OPEN Health is a paperless company 
  • Ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing challenges, issues, and priorities with the ability to delegate, problem solve, and set clear expectations
  • Enthusiasm, team-player attitude, self-motivation, and professional demeanor 
  • Proficiency performing PubMed searches and using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. EndNote experience is a plus!

Working conditions
  • This position can be performed remotely or in a corporate business setting
  • Hours: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday; or as required by business needs
  • Travel: Less than 10%
