Job purpose

The Account Director, Training oversees the development and execution of life science training programs and initiatives directed toward medical and/or commercial field force customer-facing teams. From lead generation to securing business, the ADT will provide sound training recommendations and plans based on adult learning principles and sound instructional design experience. Liaising with internal and external key stakeholders, the ADT will carry projects and plans to completion and ensure internal team members drive the growth and prosperity of the business by enabling team members to deliver the highest quality life science training programs and other communications deliverables.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Account Direction/Growth

  • Core responsibility is managing life science training programs and initiatives including, but not limited to, training slide decks, eModules, backgrounders, workshops, interactive PDFs, leadership & participant guides, training videos, podcasts, and learning management systems (LMS) platforms
  • Directly responsible for outcome of all assigned projects
  • Partner with the Senior Management team to share accountability for the total growth and profitability of accounts. This is based on having developed expertise in all training strategies, educational and delivery alternatives, instructionally sound tactics, and the overarching ability to stimulate gains in revenue growth and profitability
  • Proactively partner with client Learning & Development, commercial, and or medical leaders to develop and implement successful training programs and strategies by demonstrating:
    • Mastery and command of the various strategies and tactics that are most appropriate to unique client situations
    • Definitive and communicable understanding of the critical success factors and likely risks or challenges associated with those various strategies and tactics
  • Prepare project proposals and coordinate implementation and follow-up, including preparing and delivering professional client presentations for sales purposes
  • Generate business with established clients as well as new clients within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry
  • Manage and take responsibility for all client contact—internal and external—with a consistent focus on agency profitability, resource productivity and growth, client satisfaction, and endorsement of agency’s superior capability
  • Responsible for revenue forecasting, meeting quarterly revenue targets, and managing expenses
  • Prepare client contact reports
    • Recommend alternatives and identify opportunities based on solution-oriented approach and deep intuitive understanding of accounts
    • Problem-solving challenges and contingency plan
  • Provide strategic oversight to teams for all assignments to ensure that client expectations are met

Compliance, Documentation and Operational Expectations

  • Comply with established standards, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain consistent attendance
  • Maintain timely submission of timesheets
  • Professional, timely response to all internal and external communications
  • Manage increases in workload/volume across multiple clients and accounts while ensuring quality and accuracy
  • Procure and maintain appropriate travel documentation

Financial Management

  • Accurate and timely invoicing
  • Ensure Statements of Work/Purchase Orders are in place before work begins
  • Ensure Project Change Notices are prepared in compliance with corporate standards
  • Ensure client tracking reports and invoice schedules are prepared on a timely basis

Team Management/Mentorship

  • Manage the assigned Account and Medical teams on all proposed and sold business
  • Lead peers and junior staff members, acting as a strong role model for less experienced individuals through both direct development and by setting an example of exceptional performance
  • Provide frequent performance feedback and coaching to improve the capability and productivity of assigned internal staff members
  • Establish, monitor and deliver on project timelines in partnership with internal team members
  • Cultivate team performance to encourage personal growth and development

Account Resourcing/Operations

  • Support management team in assessing the staffing and operations requirements to successfully execute new business ventures and strategies
  • Evaluate patterns of performance, teamwork, process management and business practices which, if changed, could improve agency profitability, resource effectiveness and productivity, overall client satisfaction, and market competitiveness
  • Proactively plan and manage specific initiatives to ensure effectiveness and productivity
  • Negotiate resource requirements with senior management for all assigned teams whenever workload and client requirements are expected to generate more activity and output than assigned staff can manage

Product Knowledge

  • Review product, disease state, and therapeutic literature, understand client brand strategies and imperatives and medical scientific platforms to provide strategic educational recommendations for clients and internal content development teams
  • Attend relevant industry, training, and therapeutic conferences as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (life sciences preferred)
  • Advanced degree in health science or business management is desirable
  • Minimum of 8 years’ direct involvement with pharmaceutical sales training, life science training, pharmaceutical marketing, medical communications, promotional medical education, business development in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, or senior management and account responsibility in a medical communications or marketing services company
  • Proven business development results
  • Experience developing and establishing new products and services offerings
  • Highly successful relationship initiator and builder–resilient personality that capitalizes on every opportunity presented
  • Experience in LMS, digital training platforms, and or Veeva Vault/CRM systems
  • Experience with pharmaceutical and or biotechnology medical legal regulatory review process

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proven ability to manage people for increased productivity and client satisfaction
  • Ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing challenges, issues, and priorities with the ability to delegate and set clear expectations
  • Ability to handle high levels of account activity
  • Working knowledge of Office programs including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and other project management software
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team structure
  • Operating budget responsibility of up to $5MM of revenue

Working conditions

This position will be performed in a corporate business setting

Office is located on the 3rd Floor of office building

Elevator is in good working condition but can be inoperable during times of repair or power outages

Position is located in Parsippany, NJ

Hours: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday; or as required by business needs

Travel: International and domestic; approximately 20%

Physical requirements

Ability to sit for long periods of time

Able to lift 25 pounds
