Peloton Advantage, LLC, is a fast-growing medical communications company located in Parsippany, NJ. Our medical and account teams provide strategic support to pharmaceutical company clients and produce high-quality journal articles, abstracts, posters, supplements, slide presentations, monographs, and other educational materials.

Department Overview

The HEOR – Value Evidence Generation department will include staff with core competencies in the areas of health economic modeling (Decision Analysis, Markov Models, Discrete Event Simulation Models), retrospective database analyses (claims, electronic medical records, integrated datasets), and primary data collection studies (cross-sectional surveys, prospective cohort studies, patient/disease registries, pragmatic trials). Research topics may include, but not be limited to, practice patterns, treatment inertia, unmet need/treatment gaps, comparative effectiveness, adherence/persistence, cost-effectiveness, cost/burden-of illness, budget impact, quality of life/utility assessment, preference/discrete choice experimentation, treatment satisfaction, meta-analysis and predictive modeling. The department will create value dossiers and other field-based tools and disseminate research findings in peer-reviewed literature within these areas of expertise. 

Position Overview 

The VP, HEOR – Value Evidence Generation will serve a dual function of HEOR direction/leadership across the organization and business development.

The goal of this new position is to build out and develop the HEOR – Value Evidence Generation department as described above in the Department Overview. The VP, HEOR – Value Evidence Generation assumes responsibility for the overall HEOR content of assigned accounts and new business, must be able to work both independently and in a team structure, and must be particularly suited to high-profile client and faculty contact. As the HEOR lead on any project, the VP, HEOR – Value Evidence Generation is responsible for clearly communicating content needs to Medical Directors and Medical Writers and concept needs to Graphic Designers. The VP, HEOR – Value Evidence Generation will also have direct and overall responsibility for department adherence to budgets within a project, escalating resource needs as appropriate, and providing high-level strategic input to clients and to internal client account teams around real-world evidence (RWE), value evidence generation, health technology assessment (HTA), and/or market access.

The VP, HEOR – Value Evidence Generation may manage one or more direct reports including monitoring workload, conducting performance reviews, providing guidance and mentorship, and approving timesheets and PTO requests (full details are outlined in Section IV).

The VP, HEOR – Value Evidence Generation will liaise with internal account leads, other department leads, and the Senior Management Team. Whenever necessary, the person in this position may be asked to serve as an external Subject Matter Expert (SME) from the department at client or industry meetings.

Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities: 

  • Build/develop the HEOR – Value Evidence Generation department
  • Oversee business development efforts across the organization relative to HEOR
  • Identify opportunities to (a) further leverage client’s existing HEOR data through post-hoc analyses and/or (b) collect additional data through de novo research
  • Plan, manage, and review HEOR projects and publications and help develop HEOR education programs
  • Provide internal inter-departmental education on HEOR topics to improve proficiency in these areas across teams
  • Work closely with medical direction and/or medical writing staff to ensure on-target messaging accuracy, and overall high quality
  • Partner with Account Leads (SVP/VP, Client Services) to evaluate opportunities for HEOR support to drive organic growth within existing business
  • Develop solutions for account team(s) based on product lifecycle
  • Build relationships with clinical and research executives in the pharmaceutical industry as well as academic opinion leaders
  • Fulfill revenue expectations and timeline and budget adherence for HEOR component of team(s)
  • Execute responsibilities regarding direct reports/team members (as applicable)
    • Monitor workload of direct reports and make proactive recommendations to Senior Management regarding plans for anticipated temporary/ongoing periods of underutilization or overload
    • Approve timesheets, expenses, and PTO for direct reports
    • Oversee development of direct reports
    • Perform regular performance evaluations of direct reports
    • Mentor junior HEOR and medical/writing staff on assigned accounts by assessing and giving timely and constructive feedback to aid in development plans
    • Mentor HEOR and medical/writing team members to ensure that they achieve all standards of client satisfaction
    • Champion superlative team relationships and inspire HEOR and medical team members to partner effectively with assigned account teams
  • Assist in the evaluation of new hire candidates for the department
  • Coordinate with Medical Resources personnel and the Senior Management Team to identify in-house resources for completion of projects whenever possible
  • Serve as a role model for others with respect to professionalism and personal productivity
  • Provide HEOR services to assigned accounts
  • Represent the company at selected educational and client meetings and business pitches
  • Develop new HEOR product offerings that can complement or expand overall company capabilities
  • Attend status meetings as necessary
  • Comply with company standards
  • Procure and maintain appropriate travel documentation
  • Maintain consistent attendance
  • Maintain timely submission of time sheets
Position Requirements: 

Education or Equivalent (minimum required to perform job):

  • MD, PharmD, PhD, or other advanced degree in Health Economics, Health Services Research, Outcomes Research, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health or other comparable areas

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Proven track record of high-impact HEOR programs (including publications), real-world evidence (RWE), value evidence generation, health technology assessment (HTA), and/or market access.
  • Ability to function as the Subject Matter Expert within the company with regard to HEOR topics
  • Business development experience to drive the revenue streams for the HEOR function
  • Knowledge of the changing payer/Health Technology Assessment (HTA) landscape in the US (Value Assessment Frameworks like ICER and ASCO) and globally (HTA Agencies like NICE and IQWIG)
  • Strong understanding of the impact of health reform on the availability of medical data for research purposes
  • Broad technical knowledge of outcomes research and health economics
  • Experience developing outcomes research/health economic study protocols
  • Ability to review data outputs, interpret results, and develop/deliver publications and/or presentations
  • Experience in developing global value dossiers and pharmacoeconomic models
  • Strong strategic and technical writing skills
  • Strong leadership skills with expertise in building high-performing teams
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical marketing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working on multiple parallel projects
  • Proven managerial expertise/personnel management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of assigned accounts and related revenue targets as the HEOR lead
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team structure
